Van Persie's off to United - will never forgive him* for that...

Confirmed today with just a medical remaining next season Robin Van Persie will be wearing a Manchester United jersey.

The only reason for any man to sell Robin Van Persie to a direct rival would probably be his unsettled mind at the club. Van Persie has acted in a very professional manner upto today. After claiming that he aimed to move on early in the summer, he has not said a word about his future. Reports have been flying in and out every day, but there was of course no official statement released from the player.

Wenger claimed 2 days ago that:

There’s no news on Van Persie. Our fans want him to stay so you can understand they are excited. Anything I could say about Van Persie would be a lie because he’s our player and that’s it.

‘Robin scored 30 goals last season and you want to keep your best players. He was player of the year in England. We want to keep him. I cannot tell you more at the moment because I don’t know more.

‘We have not bought the players to replace Van Persie, but to strengthen our squad with the thinking Van Persie will stay. That’s still my mind at the moment.’

His statements are so contradictory to his actions that I really don’t know what to believe anymore. It is true that Van Persie carried Arsenal last season into Europe, so I guess his decision to move is directly related to the fact that he does not want to handle the pressure of carrying a single team anymore.

It is strange given the fact that Arsenal has made 3 good summer signings this time.

Today the man said this:

“We already recruited to replace him.”

“It’s sad to lose a player of his quality. He had a year left on his contract so we didn’t have the choice.”

*Focus on the two bold statements above. Can you spot the difference?

In my opinion, Van Persie had already made up his mind to leave the club at the beginning of the summer. He acted in a very professional manner, and looking at all the offers which he got on the table – he chose the best which came to mind.

Why did Wenger sell him?

Maybe he felt that him staying would do more harm to the team than good. But this we will never know because if this was the case the why did he make the above statements 2 days ago.

Maybe he felt that Arsenal should keep to their transfer policy and ensure they make a profit. The club have bagged 24 million in the bank with a deficit of 10 yet to go. Rumours have it that Song is interested in moving to Barcelona.

Or, maybe he felt that the man was past his prime.

I understand why he moved to United.

If you look at it from his point of view, he is 29 and in the form of his life. It was obvious that the next time he moved to a club that pay-cheque would be his highest ( this is also why he did not discuss the 130,000 pounds/week offer given to him). And the time was perfect for him. In the twilight of his career, and in the form of his life, he is getting to play for a top club with his wages being more than doubled – who wouldn’t move ?

BUT, I am an Arsenal fan. And no player can be bigger than the club. So whatever may be Van Persie’s reasons I won’t forgive him or Wenger for doing this. There seems to be no difference between him and Nasri (yet there is).

Personally, I would not mind if he had moved, but it had to be to another team in another league. That way atleast Arsenal fans(even I) would not be so ticked off with his transfer.

There has to be a limit to everything, and swapping teams especially 2 old rivals should just happen in FIFA, not fucking real life.
