The Preview : Arsenal FC vs Marseille FC

We take on Marseille tomorrow evening at the Emirates stadium. This past week has been good and capping it off by beating the French side will make it even better. If we do win we reach the ’10 points’ total and that number will certainly get us into knockout stage of the champions league.

Arshavin should get a run in after missing the Chelsea game. Benny may get the nod as well ahead of Ramsey who may not be risked. I feel the Professor will give a rest to his wingers after Saturday’s game. Our back looks sound with the return of the Verminator, but its going to be interesting to see who plays where (at the back)

Probable Line-up :

Final thoughts :

This game will not be a walk in the park. It took us more than 90 mins to get a goal past Marseille so don’t expect goals galore tomorrow in North London. I do feel with our own run we are favourites and can get the required 3 points but because its football anything can happen. I hope the team keeps a clean sheet tomorrow as this will boost the confidence of the defense, who in reality need it.

Cheers

MATCH RATINGS – CHELSEA FC 3-5 ARSENAL FC

Before I go on to the ratings I must give credit where it is due….

…To Arsene Wenger – For believing in players like Theo, Ramsey, Kosher and Szczesny. They really stepped up in match which we all thought was the acid test for our beloved club. 10

Szczesny – Went walk about again and could have been sent off. Some clearances were not convincing but looked the only calm person at the back for us. Made a fine save against Lampard’s free Kick and did enough to put Sturridge off in the first half. 6

DJ- Got mauled in the first quarter of the first half. Recovered later on and did well afterwards. He is not a full back in the first place so I am not going to be too harsh on him. 5.5

Mertersacker- I was furious with him in the first half. Was in the wrong position for the first goal and left Terry completely unmarked for the second. Improved in the second half. 5

Kosher- Was the only one at the back not guilty of well to put it simply “Fucking up.” Apart from a few astray passes he gave everything he got. 6.5

Andre Santos- Defending wise he was horrible in the first half. Should have contained Mata better for the first goal and let Sturridge breeze past him for the disallowed one. He sometimes goes in too early with his challenges which is extremely risky. Luckily his success rate is not too shabby. Attacking wise he is a treat to watch. Scored 2 in 5 games for us and gave us our equalizer in the second half where he improved by leaps. However gave possession away to Chelsea for the Mata’s wonder goal. (How many wonder goals do people score against us) I must say he needs to control the Brazilian in him when defending against top opposition. After all he is a defender at first. 5

Song- A delightful pass to Santos for the equalizer. Made some crucial tackles and helped the defense, especially the full backs. 6.5

Arteta- Composed and calm as you would like one to be in a team that looked extremely jittery in the beginning. Hardly gave way possession when on the ball and kept the midfield ticking. Played some great passes especially the lofted one that put Robin on goal which he failed to control. 6.5

Ramsey – I really thought he was dross after the Spurs game. Well this is what confidence does to you. A transformed player ready to fill the hole Fabregas has left. Fantastic pass to Gervinho which cut Chelsea open. The Welsh-man played some delightful football. Could have gotten us a penalty after Cole tripped him . 7.5

Walcott- Wrong about him too. Tormented Cole and should have had two assists after feeding Gervinho and RVP splendid crosses. Made a new trick as he fell down got up again slithered past 2 defenders and smashed home our third. Well done Theo that too against one of the best left backs in the world. 7.5

Gervinho- Missed a guilt edged chance in the in the 11th min but was calm to provide Robin with our first after making a great run. Gave his defenders a tough time with his trickery. Overall a good attacking display. 7

RVP- Missed a great chance, lost control on two occasions where otherwise he could have gone through on goal. However a hat trick at Stamford Bridge. I loved his second where he waltzed passed Cech after taking full advantage of Terry’s slip. Bet Torres was watching. The Flying Dutchman. 9

SUBSTITUTES :

Rosicky – Hard tackling and some great passing . Was involved in our fifth goal. Nice play between him and Arteta during the dying mins of added time !

Carl- No nonsense from our young full back .Good to see him back.

Vermaelen- I was given a huge boost in confidence after seeing him come on. Didn’t have much to do though as Robin had finished the game off.

What you need to know : Chelsea FC 3-5 Arsenal FC

Today Stamford bridge were first hand witnesses of mass murder as Arsenal Captain Robin Van Persie slaughtered them over and over and OVER again. Theo and Santos did add in a few ‘chops’ to what looked a carcass of Justin Beiber at the end of 90 mins.

In the 1st min we could have got 1-0 down when Ashley Cole stole himself away from DJ to play a lovely ball to the Torres. It takes talent to squander that chance and indeed El Nino did as the ball was deflected for a corner.

Few mins later DJ was again removed from the picture by a long ball to Ashley Cole, again the Englishman played a juicy ball into the area, but this time Per cleared.

And then just short of the 10th min Chelsea had their 3rd clear chance to bury the game. But this time Szczesny intercepted Sturridge’s low pass before it reached Torres. It was like playstation.

On 11, Gervinho should have put us 0-1 up when Theo out ran Cole and rolled the ball into the path of Gervinho. I have stated that it takes talent to miss chances, well, Gervinho has that talent and you can bet me on it. 1 min later it could have been 2 for us when Robin mis-directed a delightful ball played to him from Theo over Cech’s cross bar.

3 mins later we were 1-0 down. Frank Lampard got his head at the end of a brilliant lofted cross from Juan Mata. It was routine ball which should have been defended starting from Santos at left back to Mertersacker at centre. Both of them fucked it, and we found ourselves 1-0 down. If I had to blame somebody it would definitely be the full back because he could have contained Mata instead of unnecessarily lunging forward.

On 28, a brilliant ball from Lampard found Sturridge free on goal. This time Szczesny was not called to save it, rather Sturridge botched it.

However on 36 we were back. Completely against the run of play young Aaron Ramsey caught the Chelsea defense asleep with a brilliant ball to Gervinho, who unselfishly passed it to Robin to make it 1 all to us.

Santos was getting killed at left-back. No actually he was getting slaughtered. Defending like a child who thinks this is a practice match against school children, the Brazilian was at it once again on 37 when Sturridge went passed him as if he was invisible.

On 44, it was 2 for Chelsea. Without a doubt this was Mertersacker’s fault as he should have marked Terry who actually had the time to jump into the air and hit the ball into the bottom of the net. Dis-fucking-gusting.

We started the second half on the front foot.

On 45, Robin’s shot was stopped by Cech from a tight angle. Seconds later Ramsey stabbed shot from a Gervinho pass looped over Cech’s crossbar.

On 48, we were level. Andre Santos who was killed in the first half smashed the ball into the net after Song played a lovely ball to him beyond Bosingwa. 1 min later Szczesny charge on Cole deservedly earned the pole a yellow card. It was not red because of the number of players behind Szczesny.

7 mins later, we led. An exquisite run from the Theo who fell down, got up and still drove on shimming passed 2 defenders in a flash, before lashing a drive into Cech’s net. Brilliant!

On the hour mark, Ramsey’s naivety or Honesty as I would like to call it avoided a huge decision from the Mr. Marriner. To put it simply, if Ramsey had gone down we would probably get a penalty.

On 80, Juan Mata equalised from a long range drive which Szczesny was helpless to save. There was some controversy before the goal, but it was not conclusive of anything.

4 mins later we led…AGAIN. Robin 1-on-1 with Cech made him his bitch before making it 4-3 to us.

On 87, Wenger took off Gervinho for Vermaelen.

With 4 mins added on and our current defensive predicament anything could have happen d. Infact On 94, Mata shot was blocked by Santos.

On 91, it was 5 for us. RVP made Cech ‘eat-2 much for his taste’ as he let loose a thunderous left foot drive which saw the ball deflect past the keeper before he could say “WTF!”

We ripped Chelsea apart.

ASSESSMENT :

First off, let me be frank. We could have gone 3-0 down in 10 mins and if these are the drills which are being practiced on the grounds, then the standard of the premier league has seriously diminished.

At the same time we could have got 2 back in 2, so its not all bad ONLY on the Arsenal front.

Wenger should be delighted that the score is 2-1 at half time because it could have been 7-3. I don’t know what defensive drills Wenger is doing on the grounds but someone should be there just to see whether they are actually doing something or is he simply taking a class with a white-board marker with the players bringing books and pens writing down what they can make out of his French accent. The defense is in shambles, and this is not the first time this has been written in this Arsenal Blog.

The attacking itself was minimal in the first half. But in the second half we saw the old counter attacking Arsenal !

I am speechless about Robin because he made one of the best keeper in the world look ordinary today. Theo whom I have criticised alot recently certainly did step up today and Gervinho who although should have had a goal to his name was spectacular with his runs….

I will be out with the Match Ratings soon but till then Gooners bottoms up. We drink till late tonight !

The Preview : Chelsea FC vs Arsenal FC

Chelsea for me is a jack in the box. Honestly, anything can happen at the Bridge this saturday absolutely anything. We may win by 2, lose by 2, get thrashed (and by that I mean a good 3 goal margin) or scrape through with a 0-1 win. Its possible, so don’t write it off.

1 positive point is that last time Chelsea last kept a clean sheet was against Stoke. Another plus point is that Drogba is not playing.

Now to the negative(s) :

Boas, like Mourinho is a tactician and in my opinion he already knows how to hurt us. The main thing is to get the ball back from them in the midfield, and maintaining a constant pacy tempo, which is easier written than done. Counter-attacks should be adhered to because they have fast & clinical players like Sturridge and Torres.

I admit I am worried about Chelsea. And the main reason causing me concern is that Chelsea have the will to play football and WIN. Lets be frank, they were away at Goodison Park and came away with a win having 10 men for over half an hour. If thats not desire then I do not know what is.

Injuries :

The Boss has stated that Vermaelen may be a bit short  for saturday, but he should be available. Jenkinson  & Gibbs will most likely miss out.

Probable Line -up :

I know I am taking a long shot, but I sincerely do feel that this will be the line-up for saturday. If anything does change it will be the fact that DJ shall start and Vermaelen sitting. All 3 midfielders will have their periods going forward, but the crucial thing is falling back when we lose the ball. Chelsea will pounce on us because its obvious when we attack we commit players forward. The attacking trio is all good except for the bloke on the left hand side who I hope will do something !

Things to watch out for :

Set pieces, Ivanovic (maniac) and unnecessary fouls out side our D-box.

Cheers,

THE ARMOURY

ARSENE WENGER…..THE DARK KNIGHT (republished after todays AGM)

Our philosophy of football is unique. We don’t undertake crazy spending, but rather undertake it in a conservative manner. Our debt is under control, and from a business perspective we are heading in a positive direction. BUT….today if I get into an argument with my friend over lets say Arsenal VS Manchester United, all I am going to hear, and if I may add very loudly, “What happened last time we met “, and “Wheres your trophy ?”

But on a rational, or rather Club-wise level, nobody will say anything. I mean look at our situation and look at theirs.

The main principle underlying the very existence of Arsenal Football Club, “Self sustainment” has been ignore. And we are not just talking about a little ignorance. I mean everybody ignores it, even the British media. You shall find very rarely articles on how efficient Arsenal FC is run and this excludes posts from bloggers !

So in a nutshell what is Arsene Wenger is doing is nothing great in the eyes of every other club, but only great in the eyes of us Gooners.

Personally, I love the philosophy the man has instilled in the club as I am a supporter of the club and I love the club as well as the football it plays. Yes, I get angry at the man becuase I feel he is ‘ridiculous’ (regarding management on the pitch) at times, but I have never spoken against his policy. Wenger’s philosophy of keeping the club stable and financially sufficient is actually a lone beacon standing out of a dark mountain. BUT its not pictured this way. Infact people picture it as the sun at 12 noon or the stars at daytime. We know it’s not easy to manage a club using this philosophy. Sir Alex, Mourinho etc…No ! None have done this. Why ? Because to do this you have to devote a lot of discipline, time and ‘life’ to your club. And AW has done it. But is it appreciated by the common football fan ? Hell NO ! [ SAF has done it but their debt speaks for itself ]

Yes may be by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) have given him an award regarding this issue, but in my eyes that is too less for a man who has done so much for a club.

What Wenger is doing is never appreciated. He is doing something different and something which is right. Now this is a generalised view and not my opinion because it does not make sense for a club to win everything, and have the largest debt in the world !

It’s sad to see the world greatest league degrading to a level in which money matters the most. If we now start counting the clubs which have such “own” power, we have already got 3 top teams. Chelsea, City, and Liverpool. Now add to that list Manchester United because of those Qatar takeover reports….Whereas a team like Arsenal , who are actually doing the right thing by managing its finances and maintain its level of respect is ignored and criticised.

I know for a fact most fans of other clubs critiqued the ‘Manager of the Decade’ award going to Wenger. It’s obvious. Go to a Chelsea or United Blog and I’ll bet you’ll find some bloke saying it was their manager/former manager who should have won. Why ? Because of trophies. Wenger takes all the ***t from us fans but yet he sticks to what he feels is right for the club at the Club-level…

Now I cannot say that I do not want a trophy. But if that means that my club will go into a huge debt, sorry, **** off ! It’s not rocket science to see this and yet nobody gives a damn.

We live in environment in which management matters alot. When Arsene Wenger manages Arsenal it’s like we feel that closure and warmth that the club is in good hands. He has kept Arsenal at that level which is expected of them. Qualifications for the Champions League, semi-finals, giving youth a chance you name it !

Yes, I know we have not won a trophy, but the manner in which the man has managed the club in some circumstances is sensational. Want an example of bad management in those similar circumstances : Liverpool ! they were just lucky that an owner came and bought them.

AW is a man who has devoted his life to a club which we love. He has brought up players, who we thought were useless, and turned them into world-class players. Alex Song for example. He has instilled his faith into players and given them a level of responsibility which they never thought of getting. To play for Arsenal FC. Szczesny for example. And lastly, he has managed Arsenal as a whole, showing people what a manager stands for.

That it is not only the football part which is the managers only responsibility. He manages a club, and by that I mean the whole club.

Yes, I have always felt that the man could have done better and little bits of tweaks to his policy could have got us the title, but I will just have to accept the fact that he is a PURIST. He wants his water crystal clear and he believes that he can win a trophy with his philosophy.

Whether I agree with that last part (achieve things as a Purist) is something entirely different, but for now let me leave it as it is…..

What you need to know : Arsenal FC 2-1 Bolton Wanderers FC

Arsenal progressed a round further in the Carling Cup today as we came back to beat Bolton 2-1 at the Emirates. 2 goals in the span of 10 mins saw us qualify as we conceded early into the second half (very cheaply, if I may add !)

On 8, we got our first chance as Miguel’s header from an Arshavin corner went wide. 3 mins later we had our second of the evening when youngster Alex Chamberlain half volley from the left flashed past goal, only to be deflected by Knight for a corner.

On 22, Luke was called into action as the pole had to ensure Darren Pratley’sshot from the edge of the park did not end up at the back of his net.

It was a cagey match with 2 teams thinking whether they should go for it or not. Of course we had chances, but it was someway different to the Arsenal of 2003-2004. On the half an hour mark we had our 3rd chance of the game. This time it was Yossi with a curling effort just wide of goal.

8 mins later Bogdan had to be alert as he tipped Vermaelen’s left footed free-kick over the bar. Best chance of the game !

Overall, I think Owen Coyle would be satisfied by the way his team has played.

Within 2 mins of the restart Bolton had taken the lead. Honestly, the goal could have been avoided but lack of muscle in the midfield was probably the reason why we conceded. It was as easy as 3 steps. First, Muamba shrugged off Frimpong in the middle of the park, second, he passed the ball to Darren Pratley (who returned it after 2 touches) and third, smashed the ball into the roof of the net.

The goal in my opinion rung the alarm bells at the Emirates. And didn’t we respond well ?Within 10 mins we equalised and took the lead. The first goal came from Arshavin on 53 whose low footed shot nut-megged Knight and found itself into the back of the net. Moments later, our goal scorer turned provider as  he played a delightful ball to Park who finished it off comfortably.

On 70, Frimpong brought Davies down in a chancy area. Kakuta takes it, Luke drops it but the ball is cleared to safety.

When we entered the 80th min, I have to confess that I was a bit tensed. This is a young Arsenal team and if we concede now Bolton would pile on us  pretty badly.

On 88, Bolton could have equalised as a low ball found Klasnic free in the 6 yard box. Fortunately for us the Croatian smashed it wide.

Eagles swings in a dangerous ball in the final moments, Klasnic only just gets there and his stray header goes out for a goal kick.

With 4 mins added on, Bolton began committing men forward as Cahill got the ball in the box. Thankfully due to pressure from Ryo, the Englishman shot got deflected for a corner. Moments later Klasnic had his chance to get on the score-sheet but AGAIN the Croatian placed his header wide.

Full time score : Arsenal 2-1 Bolton

ASSESSMENT :

Looking at the team Arsenal put out it would be a bit harsh to criticise them for not playing beautiful football but at the same time as a fan I look at the amount of effort players put it on the pitch, and if that satisfies me, I am content.

We started the first half very brightly to be honest but then gradually it all died down. On retrospection, we did not trouble the Bolton defense that much. Apart from a few long range efforts and one well taken free-kick, Bogdan had little to deal with. The second half however saw all the action as we concede but came back in vengeance.

I am happy with the performance, because we showed that we had the character to come back with such a young team. But, having said that, at the same time there is lots of room for improvement especially in the defence as we gave  away a cheap goal, and let Bolton put us in distressing situations at times.

Carling Cup Preview : Arsenal FC vs Bolton FC

I will keep this very short. Bolton are not in good form so I feel we should rest some of our key players for Chelsea. That is, Van Persie, Gervinho & Theo in my opinion should all be rested.

We have already beaten Bolton at the Emirates, so that should gives us the edge.

Probable Line -up :

Starting 11 :

As for the team, Frimpong should start and Ignasi should play alongside Kosher in defense. Rosicky should start, alongside Yossi. Chamakh needs dome confidence so asking him to lead the attack will be good for him. Park WILL Start and this has been confirmed by the manager.

Now although, the above formation shows a 4-4-2 but it may switch to a 4-3-3 anytime.

There is some good news on Vermaelen. Wenger has stated that the Belgian is in full training and may return soon. I don’t know if he will play against Bolton but lets not rule out the possibility.

PS : A belated happy birthday to Wayne Rooney. He turned twenty ‘six’ yesterday.

Grab a beer and have a look at these pictures…it made my day !

First off, we have a guy in thinking deeply. I don’t know what he is thinking about but I presume its ” Why always me “

Secondly, we have the triumvirate. All of whom are thinking that we should have hired Howard Webb.

Thirdly, its Rooney ” De Gea…sniff….slapped me, sniff…sniff..”

And lastly, the scoreline at Old Trafford, Greater Manchester.

Good-Day Gooners,

DKD

Match Ratings : Arsenal FC 3-1 Stoke City FC

With 20 mins to go Van Persie and Gervinho ensured we got the points. The former scoring 2 and the latter scoring 1 and providing 2. As for the rest, here is how all of them fared today at the Emirates :

Szczesny: Firstly, he will make a good dribbler. Secondly, whatever he did today was routine. Thirdly, he was helpless for the goal…..6

Santos: Unnecessary fouls. Covered his side well He needs to improve his crosses and movement when going forward……6.5

Kosher: He has the ability to be a world class defender. Quite obviously, the leader in the defense. He took the ball from Couch fairly, and the ref was wrong to criticise him for it….7.5

Per: Some inane passes, but other than that – well-disciplined and patient. Should have kept Crouch quiet though…..6

DJ: Quiet, and dealt with whatever came his way. He should improve his communication skills with Szczesny, as he may be playing quite often with Sagna out…..6

Song: He was our major attacking threat upto the 60th min, and he put his shift in defense also. Proper, balance play from the captain (before Van Persie)….7

Ramsey: He is the leader in the midfield. He played some brilliant balls in the first half and provided the slick chip for Gervinho. This is why I want him to take the initiative, and play forward. That is how good he can be…..8.5

Arteta: Did well to keep the ball in on 46, and subsequently provided a juicy cross for Chamakh to miss. Other than that nothing special. A few positive passes, majority of which were dealt with….6.5

Gervinho: My MOTM because he scored and provided 2 assists. He tormented any defender on his side of the flank and if he keeps this up can truly be a special player. However that being said he took the responsibility of Santos’ role and failed to mark the over-lapping run of the left back………9.5

Theo: What is the point if you can run fast and you don’t use it?….4

Chamakh: No comment….3

SUBSTITUTES:

Arshavin: He played the pass to Gervinho who then provided his second assist. Added something more to the team, and honestly contributed more than Walcott…7

Robin Van Persie: Let’s see. He was on for 20 mins, and scored 2 goals. Inspired the team and added loads of quality and confidence when on the pitch. Similar to what Cesc did when he came on against Villa. Someone please help me out with this one…9

Frimpong: N/A

What you need to know : Arsenal FC 3-1 Stoke City

A Van Persie and Gervinho performance ensured the we picked up 3 points today at the Emirates. It was a tight match ‘until the captain was brought on’, who then rapped the game up in 20 mins. But all credit cannot be given to him alone. Today his side-kick Gervinho also stepped up and showed us why he is worth a little more than 10 million pounds.

On 6, Theo made a run across Wilson hoping to latch onto Ramsey ball, but the pass was too hard, and Stoke cleared. We had no penetration and did not bother Stoke too much at all. That is not counting Arteta’s long range shot which did very little to bother Begovic.

On 14, a brilliant ball from Ramsey over the defense intended to reach Gervinho, but Begovic’s early charge demolished that threat. Ramsey was the only one who trying to do something. Playing the ball forward, and taking the initiative. On top, Chamakh was getting killed. Barely getting a touch, and playing capricious passes while on the ball.

On 21, Wilson gave us a foul after bringing down Walcott. Arteta took the free-kick and it bounced to Gervinho on the eight. On receiving the ball the Ivorian controlled it before passing it to Ramsey whose shot was just a yard wide of Begovic’s goal.

On 26, we finally took the lead. A brilliant chip from Ramsey found Gervinho free in the D-box. The Ivorian chested it and slotted it beyond Gervinho to make it “1 nil to the Arsenal.” This is why I want Ramsey to take the initiative and play forward, because he is capable of that. Picking out players is definitely tough, but to do that in front of the box against Stoke (who charge at you as if you were Justin Beiber) makes the feat even more commendable. 5 mins later Gervinho was at it again after playing a brilliant ball across the face of goal. Chamakh should have been there to finish it off.

On 32, Kosher’s early leap saw us concede a free-kick from the same place as last week. It was NOT a foul and a bad decision. At the same time, it’s not an excuse to NOT defend properly.

Why?

Because from the same damn place, we witnessed a well worked free-kick resulting in our opponents to equalise. Marking was poor, and a little bit of research would have avoided this situation. It’s a known fact that Stoke set play’s routines include playing the RB early, giving him the opportunity to run behind the defense and cross the ball. Infact it was so well worked that the crowd were cheering when they saw the ball being kicked to the right of the field, only to be silenced moments later.

Moments later we should have had a penalty but the ref waived it off.

On 46, we could have entered the tunnel with the lead. Chamakh should have finished it off after Arteta did well to keep the ball in.

The second half was started slowly, infact VERY slowly. Upto the 60th min we were as good as absent. No real chances, no penetration. Do forgive me for not writing these 15 mins, it’s as good as covering meaningless test matches in cricket.

And within 7 mins we were in front. Gervinho did brilliantly to get pass his man on the right. The Ivorian dragged the ball on the right hand side into the D-box beating his man before passing it to our captain who poked it into the net.

On 82, it was 3. Again the duo of Gervinho and Van Persie combined to break open the Stoke defense. The only difference this time being that it was from the left. Absolutely marvellous. Take a bow son(s) take a bow!

From that time on Stoke did have a few chances to punish us. Jerome wandered unmarked right in front of Szczesny. I honestly hope Wenger reviews these tapes because if he chooses to be ignorant it going to be pretty stupid of him.

On 88, Gervinho almost made it 4 after RVP played him through on the right. But the match was won. Anybody know the score at Manchester?  Lol

ASSESSMENT :

We started the first half slowly, and as the half wore on the speed of the game ascended. Until the goal, the only real threat we did pose to Stoke were the long balls from Ramsey which if I may add nobody got to. The goal was brilliant. Starting from the chip to the finish. However, we again conceded from a set-piece play which could have been so easily avoided. A little research always goes a long way and the threat from Stoke could have been dealt with. I don’t know why Wenger does not research whilst going into matches, because this is a routine set play procedure of Stoke City. After that we were denied a penalty, and SHOULD have taken the lead seconds before the ref blew his whistle. I will not comment on Chamakh.

Van Persie made the difference and he is the screw holding this team together. His presence gave me confidence, and alongside Gervinho he was clinical today to get a brace. That is all I will say about the second half. Still, no comment on Chamakh.

The Preview : Arsenal FC vs Stoke City

Last time we met Stoke (at home) we beat them 1-0 thanks to a Squillaci header in the 8th min. Stoke can hurt us because their strong point is our weak one. We will truly be put to the test come Sunday when we will HAVE to DEFEND countless throw-ins and set pieces from our opponents.

Carl Jenkinson is most likely to miss the match against Stoke so I guess  DJ should fill in at right back.

Probable Line-up :

The crucial thing in this match will be to score fast. Stoke are a defensive team and will most likely look to unsettle us with cheap throw-ins, fouls and corners. They will sit back and let us play, and try to break on the counter. The first 20 mins of Sunderland saw us at our expected level, and if we play like that I am sure we will get our 3 points. Kosher was brilliant in France and if he continues like this he can be our Vidic.

NOT to do :

Concede unnecessary free-kicks, stupid fouls, panic and let Stoke exert themselves on us.

TO do :

Play our natural game and we will pick them apart.

If Denilson comes back, I may puke…

If Arsenal decide to re-call that idiot from his loan spell, I think I will shoot myself. Its bad enough that he played for us, but to call-back a player who has been loaned after playing shit for his ‘temporary new club’ is just ridiculous.

I am neither a fan of Denilson nor his hair-style. I also dislike the stupid dance he does if he scores. What does that even mean ? The only good thing I can say about Denilson is that he can complete a pass, the bad thing however with respect to his only ‘good’ thing is 9 out of 10 of those played passes will be either backwards or sideways. He never shoots, and that s quite inane seeing the boys long range goals (I still remember his goal against Everton when we beat them 6-1). Wenger described him as a mixture between Rosicky and Gilberto. Well in reality he is neither. Denilson cannot defend and he cannot attack. He looks a player who is stranded in the middle of the field, not knowing what to do.

The club has to be tough on this issue and ensure that these situations are no taken lightly. Denilson will come and unnecessarily debit money from the clubs bank a/c. Money which can be used for other important things like transfers or renewing player contracts. What will he do in one of the best leagues in the world when he gets sent off every few matches in Brazil. Personally I would ONLY call him back if he shows some huge improvement, which to be practical is highly unlikely. In fact, its impossible.

Sao Paulo fans want him out, and well why not. Would you like it if you play football, knowing you will finish the match playing with 10 men. Its a joke.

Sometimes a team signs a player hoping that he may turn out to be really good. Thats fine, and appreciable. You give the player a chance on a grand stage and ask him to prove his worth. Moreover this is done over a year, so bad performances can be excused more than once. When United bought Obertan the boy was tipped to be the next Ronaldo. The club kept him for 2 years, giving him ample opportunities to prove himself, before finally selling him to Newcastle this year. The reason, well, frankly he did not play upto the standards demanded from him. Outcome, SOLD ! A similar situation can be seen with Franco Di  Santo who was loaned to Rovers before being sold to Wigan by Chelsea.

Now, the main thing I can infer from this is that these CLUBS DO NOT take shit. If you are not good enough, then play, but play somewhere else. That is the attitude Arsenal should inculcate. Be tough, when you have to be tough and don’t take shit from players. Why should Denilson be paid to pass back, I mean even I can do that, pay me !

Anyway enough said, I will be posting the preview very soon  so be sure to check that out. But before I go, consider this quote. As far as I am concerned it fits Denilson’s scenario perfectly.

Don’t swallow your own shit….its NOT supposed to be in your body

Match Ratings : Marseille 0-1 Arsenal FC

Szczesny- Had really nothing much to do. Did the basics right….6

Jenkinson- I was impressed with him today . More of a threat than Walcott was. Kept giving crosses in and ran his socks off. Was out of positions a couple of times but probably because he was our only attacking channel in the first half. Injured his knee . Had a chance to play Theo through but his ‘inexperienced prevailed’. Overall a good night. Let’s hope he gets back quick….7

Mertersacker- No nonsense from him .Good positioning. Remy got passed him once all too easily but apart from that didn’t put a foot wrong. Gave a great last ditch tackle to avert danger…7

Kosher – Same as his partner, had no problems and was a reliable presence….7

Santos- Lucky to be on the field after getting booked early and then committing needless fouls. A crazy handball which could have got him sent off. However his flank had little threat from Marseille showing us that he can defend and put in a tackle. Decent going forward….5.5

Song- Got booked early when he gave the ball away near  our penalty area . Also tried to dribble his way out of the penalty box after a scramble which was dangerous . However credit to him for staying disciplined throughout the game and not get sent off . Some passes were astray…..6

Arteta- I have never been a big fan. People will give me stick for this but I really don’t see much of a difference between him and Denilson . He is probably better on the ball and doesn’t loose possession easily but is not very productive on the attack front as he gives too many side or back passes. Let’s hope he improves….5

Rosicky – Always rated him highly . Tried to be creative and kept possession well .Worked hard for us today…6

Arshavin – Quiet night for the Russian who tried but didn’t succeed…5

Walcott – Someone needs to tell him to use his pace when he can. Frustrating for me. Has the ability but not the brains. Had a great chance which Mandanda saved. Ox for me….4.5

RVP- Quiet night for our captain who was isolated up front . Had a header cleared of the line and some clever movement in the box later on in the game….6

Substitutes-

Gervinho – Was exactly what we needed , added that dynamic play to our game and played a crucial part in our goal providing the assist all be it unintentionally yet deservedly…..7.5

Ramsey – Rambo !! I criticised him alot but what a lovely finish just when your team needs it . Right at the end to grab the winner, great positioning. Just for the goal he is my MOTM…..8

DJ- Don’t like him either but a good display at right back. Played a crucial part in the goal with a surprisingly lovely cross. Defensively sound as well. Mate, please prove me wrong about yourself …..7

What you need to know : Marseille FC 0-1 Arsenal FC

Snatch and Run !

A 93rd min winner from Ramsey ensured we picked up 3 points against Marseille at the Velodrome today. It was like the scene in Rambo 3 where that ‘bloke’ shoots the helicopter out of nowhere.

On 3, Song was fouled for sheer stupidity. He put himself into that mess, and rightfully got booked. Children in nursery should be taught the meaning of ‘stupid’ by looking at Alex Song’s video.

On 20, we came close as Mandanda had to make numerous saves to keep us out. But we should have had a penalty. Arteta corner was clearly hand-balled in the box. The referee behind the goal is present to spot things like this but it seems that my 11 yr old nephew works more than him.

On 30, Loic Remy did brilliantly to nutmeg Per, get pass Jenkinson, but fortunately for us his shot was deflected for a corner.

The first half was played at a steady rate. We attacked and they attacked but neither of us had any edge. If I had to pick a side however it would be Marseille because of the numerous chances they had and missed/wasted. Lucho Gonzales had come close in the 35th minute but just couldn’t direct his shot on goal. Our total attempts on goal were 2, of which we had 1 on target. Marseille on the other hand had 6 (out of which 1 was on target.)

The second half started with us taking the initiative. We were passing the ball more, and had more possession. But it only lasted for 7-8 mins before our opponents established equilibrium.

On 63, we had our first real chance when Theo found his way in a one on one situation with Mandanda. Although he was lucky to get into the situation in the first place yet he did not capitalise on it, hitting his shot straight at Mandanda. 4 mins later he was taken off for Gervinho. Woeful performance from the Englishman.

Skipping ahead…

It looked as if each team wanted to settle for a point, and frankly it was unlike us. With 87 mins gone we didn’t look like scoring. Ramsey had been brought on for Arshavin, and Rosicky had shifted to the right.

On 90 Gervinho sprang into life as he ran towards the defense before playing a reverse ball to Van Persie. The Dutchman took one touch but his right footed shot was blocked by Mandanda.

BUT 1 min later we got it. DJ’s cross from the right bounced off Gervinho and into the path of Ramsey who finished perfectly.

Brilliant.

Marseille 0-1 Arsenal

ASSESSMENT:

The second half started well for us, but gradually became slow. I am happy because for the first time in 18 games we managed to keep a clean sheet from home. But more importantly we also won at the Velodrome, a place where United and Chelsea both failed to score.

I will be honest. I did not expect us to win after seeing the overall performance of BOTH teams. The impression that I got was that both teams were looking for a point and had decided to settle. BUT I am the happiest man to be wrong in this situation and feel relieved knowing that we leave France with 3 points.

We deserved it. We were organised and discipline in defense. However, that being said attacking wise we were below par. Especially with Theo playing like a headless chicken. Arshavin at the same time was not like himself, and Robin was quiet. BUT the fact that Wenger changed it on seeing the way the match was going pleased me. He brought on Ramsey & Gervinho, changed positions and forced the issue.

Well done Sir, keep it up.

Next up, Stoke @ home.

The Preview : Olympique de Marseille vs Arsenal FC

This will be quite a test for Arsenal. Lets face it. Going to the Stade Velodrome and getting 3 points is really demanding but if the real Arsenal, and by that I mean the Arsenal of the first 20 mins against Sunderland show up we WILL win. A quick background check on our opponents reveals that they are unbeaten in the champions league having thrashed Dortmund 3-0 last game week. In the league they are unbeaten in their last 5 games, however that being said they have won only twice(of the last 5). Last year they finished runners-up in Ligue 1.

RVP is in good form and so in my opinion should start. However, NOT conceding and defending should be the main objective apart from the 3 points. Personally I rather have 2-0 than 3-1 because this defense needs confidence, and a way to get confidence for any defense is to keep clean sheets against top-sides.

Probable Line up :

Rosicky’s performance against Sunderland was brilliant, he looked like his old self. He ran forward, pressurised players and played some lovely football. If he can keep that up, we have got ourselves a world class player. Gervinho also looked good on Sunday, He is learning to pass more often now. His performance against Sunderland was an 8/10 for me, and if he maintains this level, he will be crucial for us this season. These 2 along with RVP will be imperative when we attack. Song for me is world class. Same goes for RVP. I rather not comment on Theo.

What you need to know : Arsenal FC 2 – 1 Sunderland FC

Arsenal moved to the top half of the Barclays Premier League with a well deserved and hard fought victory over Sunderland. Again it was RVP who got us through with 2 slick goals.

We took the lead within 28 seconds after Sunderland gave the ball away cheaply. Gervinho intercepted the ball on the right before squaring it for RVP, whose right-footed shot passed Mignolet in a flash. Brilliant.

On 11, RVP almost made it 2. Arteta passed the ball to the Dutchman who made a brilliant turn before delicately chipping the ball over Mignolet. What a goal it would have been, if it wasn’t for the left post to deny it.

On 14, Gervinho skipped past a few defenders before passing it to RVP who did brilliantly to make his own space, and fire a shot sadly it was not on target.

On 27, Szczesny was saved from an utterly embarrassing situation when he came out aimlessly in order to clear the ball. Sessegnon dribbled past him but failed to take advantage of the situation.

On 31, we conceded via a superb Seb Larsson free-kick. It was an unnecessary foul by Arteta. He should use his head instead of his hands in order to clear a ball.

Having conceded that goal, it was as if someone had punched the air out of us. This was clearly evident as 5 mins later we could have conceded another one. Szczesny saved us as he made a superb reaction save preventing Cattermole’s header. Miracle.

We started the second half well but Sunderland looked more organised.

On 57, Rosicky dribbled right of O’Shea before being brought down just outside the goal. Arteta stepped up and well, ‘shot it over the bar’ (sarcasm intended). Funny, I thought RVP would take it because of all the free-kicks this Spaniard takes none are on target.

3 mins later Theo went past Wes Brown before being brought down, again, JUST outside the box. This time he stepped up, but it was woeful.

On 64, Rosicky pass to RVP cut through the Sunderland defense but the dutchman’s near post shot was blocked by Mignolet.

On 72, some exquisite dribbling from Arshavin saw him go pass 3 Sunderland players before firing left of goal.

In the 81st min we got our 3rd free-kick outside the box. Wes Brown, the culprit this time as he brought down RVP. 3rd time and GOAL. What a free-kick by RVP. I for one reason don’t understand why Mignolet tried, even Cech would be helpless. This is what I am talking about. Fucking brilliant. Take a bow son, take a bow. Captain-Leader-Legend. Screw you if you disagree.

3 mins later Yossi took the ball forward before passing it to Arshavin whose shot was saved by Mignolet.

With 5 mins of extra time Sunderland did pressurise us, but it was not to serious, well atleast nothing worth mentioning.

ASSESSMENT:

As usual we started the game positively. That is something we always do at the Emirates. But then after some moments of stupidity we came back to reality. Yes, we deserved to win, and that no one should deny but to look at the match from a top team’s point of view there is still a lot of improvement required. Our defense is taking time to gel and we played a high line from the back thus it was difficult for Sunderland’s forwards to attack.

Overall, we had a lot of possession which is expected against teams like Sunderland. But we still lack imagination whilst attacking. Yossi in my opinion was probably brought on to add that bit of intelligence, and spark.

We only have 1 or 2 quality players in this Arsenal squad. And that is the difference between 3 points and 1 or none. Quality. For example consider the free-kicks: Arteta took it, Theo took it, and then RVP. Can anyone spot the difference?

I know this team is going to take time to gel, but time is something we just do not have. Our defense was good, but thats because of all the possession we had. Isolating their performance today, it was mediocre at best.

In the first half we could have so easily conceded 2. Tell me, why should Cattermole be allowed to get into that position in the first place. A free-header out of nowhere. Organisation and getting back to cover is something we need to work on.

I am happy that we got 3 points, and also because of the fact that we played well. But putting all that aside there is a lot of improvement required if we want to play in Europe next season and one should NOT deny it.

The Preview : Arsenal vs Sunderland

Sunderland home.

First off, its going to be an interesting match because we face a team which has been as inconsistent as us in getting results. Nikko is not going to play, so we’re fine. If he scored against us, we as fans would never hear the end of it.

Kosher and DJ is back.

Since Sagna is out, the RB slot is available. As far as I can see, we have Jenkinson, and Kosher(if Vermalen was fit). But since Vermaelen is out so it should be Jenkinson at RB, and Kosher in the middle.

Probable Line-up :

Arteta in my opinion is useless. And this is not JUST because of the Spurs game. I hope he shows us his old self otherwise I don”t know why we play him in this Arsenal team (not that we have any alternative) We all know he is not Cesc’ replacement, but a little effort in terms of passing the ball FORWARD can be ‘Demanded.’

Theo and Gervinho both were poor in the last game, so lets hope they perform.

One cannot question Wengers loyalty, but one can question him….

From Sid :

Hey DKD,

Something got me really thinking so here goes…

When I think of Wengers accomplishments, the comments of Gazidis make sense.

When the professor was brought to the club we  were a mid table team. He took us to champions league football in 2-3 years kept us there for 14 years, went unbeaten for a season(no one has done that in almost 100 years) and spent ‘peanuts’ compared to the remaining title contenders, in 16 years. So even if fails to lead us to champions league football we can’t really complain when looking at the big picture can we ?

Plus, we got a new stadium.

Besides which other clubs are consistently winning trophies ? United and who else ? Chelsea have won 2 trophies after Mourinho left, Liverpool – no comment, Spurs- same ? Winning trophies is actually really rare, its just that we expect to win because of the standards set by Wenger himself.

There is something called loyalty in life and you can’t just tell someone who’s done so much for you to fuck off when he fails for the first time.

DKD replies :

Firstly mate, thanks for the email. At least someone has spotted the ‘about’ section on this blog. Now to your reply. Normally I don’t do this kind of thing as its similar to Arsenal News Review, but I had to reply to yours in this format to ensure readers understood my reply.

Funny thing isn’t it. Failed for the first time. Period.

Do tell me something mate. And I will try and keep this as short and sweet as possible

How much longer should this drought continue for Arsenal so that it becomes equivalent to Wengers achievements at Arsenal ?

In other words, how worse can the current situation get(and this may be for another 2-3 years), with respect to a club of Arsenal’s heritage and stature for us to tell Wenger that ” all dues are paid off, we are no longer in debt towards you, NOW plea’z'e leave “

What will it take ? We are 6 years without silverware, and may not see St. Totteringham Day again (for the first time in my life)

PS : You know the saddest part of this entire issue. It is the fact that a few tweaks by the Boss here and there would have got us the title, just a few. I’ll explain that in my next post “Penny Wise, Pound foolish. The Arsenal Story.”

OX 3, ‘Chu’ 2, Theo 1….R’ed’ ooney !

Arsenal are on the up Gooners.

Finally we have a week of no disappointments, except for the fact that England threw away a 2 goal lead. Not that anybody cares, they suck to be honest.

Positives from that match (from an Arsenal fans perspective) :

Theo’s cross and Rooney red card. Shrek’s on fire !!

Moussa Sow says that contract talks have stalled between him and Lille. He’s been linked with us. But then again, who hasn’t ?

Gazidis claim that they will not spend in January.

What terrific news for an Arsenal fan. Finally we have heard what we suspected all along. Quality never matters, we bought 5 players in August. That should last us another year or two.

Chu scored a brace for Korea. Funny thing, as to why he never starts. Probably because of fitness issues. He looks good, and any addition to this Arsenal squad which is ‘near good’ is welcome.

Ox bagged a hat-trick, but the kid is too young to be expected to perform. Wengers probably saving him for next season, that is to say, if Wenger lasts till next season…

…Oh wait, how foolish of me, how can you fire the boss from the office !

Gazidis is a clown…the Emirates a circus

Today Gazidis has come out with some ludicrous comments. I mean how can the Executive director of a football club of Arsenal’s stature be allowed to talk like this. It appals me that such comments can come from a man of his position and just be put ‘under bed ‘ so fucking easily.

“We would rather qualify for it but we have a really sustainable model that can cope without it. Not just cope, but we can do well and compete”

“It would be very foolish to build a business model that relied on being in the Champions League for perpetuity and I don’t think any clubs do that and, if they do, then they probably aren’t being run as responsibly as they should be.”

So let me get this right Mr. Gazidis. You are saying that it would not be a disaster for a club like Arsenal to NOT play in the champions league. What do you think the champions league is about ? Is it only about money and nothing about playing and competing with Europe’s Elite ? This is why I say this clown has no idea about what football means to supporters.

“Every club has the temptation to think that money is the answer to issues and ‘if we only spend just a little bit more, it would push us over the top of a curve’ and that is what drives the cycle of spending that you see in the game and that is not by any means always what is successful, actually”

No of course not. Instead of signing Arteta, on whom we spent 10 million pounds, if we could have added that to our existing offer of 15 for Mata, it would have been a disaster of unimaginable proportions.

“It is tempting to think that it is. It relieves pressure for a while but actually builds long-term pressure in other ways. We will continue to act with discipline to make sure we have got a good short-term and long-term future.”

So if you spend money on quality players it builds long-term pressure. As of this moment Arsenal have 50 million in the bank a/c waiting for more money to be piled on.

I believe it will attract strong and capable ownership that clubs at the moment are struggling to attract investment. There are many clubs in this country that have enormous potential that could be unlocked. But can it be done in a year by buying players? No.

Then why buy Chamberlain, Walcott and youngsters from such clubs. Let them have their players and unlock their potential.

We don’t have a salary ceiling. I don’t know where that story comes from. We have a very sophisticated business model that looks at what we need to do to compete today and what we need to do to compete next year and five years from now. I’m comfortable we will be able to be competitive in whatever environment is created.

Sorry Sir, but I don’t think we will be able to compete with the current dross in the team. Yes, if you do sign a few players in January then your quote makes more sense. Otherwise, its just ‘pure’ garbage similar to what Wenger says in his post match interviews regarding team spirit and champions mentality.

“We are not looking for credit for being a self-sustaining club. I do think it is the right model for us. It gives us stability and the ability to look forward with confidence without worrying too much about the ups and downs, the competitive cycle or the economic cycle.”

I will give you credit for that though. Not many people do, but to keep in mind fans interests it just has to be tweaked a bit. Spend a bit more than what you think you are spending.

And do it wisely.

PS : He is a City Fan.

Wenger days at Arsenal are numbered….to sign a new contract !

Arsenal is not a popular club when we look at the world. Infact right now, its not even a top club. I have heard, with respect to Arsenal so many people say that each club goes through phases and that they will get back to winning ways. Find their backs again. What a load of crock. People are so delusional. Like it or not the only way from here is downwards, with a patched up trampoline in our path.  Yeah it help us get back but we won’t reach the summit. Thats just a dream.

Now before I proceed, I’d just like to tell a few people, NOT to tell me how I should support our club. Furthermore, when I say  “I” it refers to certain fans who have the courage, and guts to stand up and say that something is “pretty fucked up.” You people, and you will know this if you are reading this, are those Gooners who are ready to accept defeat and hold no one accountable EVER ! Its always a team thing, always. The team did not play well, the team should have done this. Sadly the root source, ‘partly’ (a good 60 %) for which the tam did not play well is never mentioned. Its not his fault, its a young team. Oh, I love that excuse. Classic Arsenal Fan.

A young kid grows up, and he sees teams like Barcelona, Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, win titles, play well. Of course he would want to support them, their wins are his armoury to shut up his friends. Tell me, what can you tell a kid who supports Barcelona, if you ever get into a quarrel with him ? He will actually screw your case, because his team has done the talking on the field. Laughable. Even a kid who is a City fan can screw our case, and this is the same team, which has ‘spend millions just to get the right balance of players in a team.’ (Read that line again, it will make more sense)

We use to do the walking, but now its just the talk. About willingness, and desire and all that crap. No show, nothing.

I was surfing through Wikipedia and I read this short para, which caught my attention.

A large part of the distributed revenue from the UEFA Champions League is linked to the “market pool”, the distribution of which is determined by the value of the television market in each country. For the 2008–09 season, both Manchester United and Bayern Munich, who reached the final and quarter-final respectively, earned more than Barcelona, who won the tournament.

You must remember that at this point Barcelona just emerged onto the scene, in the 2008-2009 season. Right now they will probably beat Bayern and be at par with United(or even go ahead).

Why will they show you teams match, because it is the most popular. How to become popular. Perform, win titles, and give the fans what they pay for. Especially the last one. Arsenal do that, don’t they ?

What you need to know : Spuds 2-1 Arsenal FC

Arsenal stumbled to their 4th defeat this season to the ‘Spuds.’ It hurts, and its not the old Arsenal – Just the a team occupying their stadium.

From the beginning of the match we had to succumb to some amount of Spurs pressure, and if you pressurize Arsenal you are surely to reap benefits. Tottenham almost did in the 6th minute, when young Francis Coquelin had to save our ass by tackling the former Arsenal man just in time in the D-box after he went pass Song(with ease if I may add). Second later, Song fucked up by giving the ball away. This resulted in Parker forcing a save from Szczesny. 1st chance to Spurs.

On 15, a left footed shot from Theo just missed the post. But don’t worry it was not as if we were imposing ourselves on them. The shot had come against the run of play.

On 27, the defense was again exposed as Szczesny made a crucial save from VDW flick. VDW was allowed to wander into the box with no one picking him up. Disgusting

On 28, Gervinho missed the first real chance of the derby. RVP went pass Kaboul into the box, before pulling it back for Gervinho, who missed the target. This should have been a goal, and I have no idea how he missed.

On 33, Gervinho picked up the ball in the middle of the field before finding Theo, who cut back into the D-box via a first touch before lashing the ball over the goal.

A few minutes later, we played some brilliant short spell of Football. RVP to Gervinho to Ramsey who is a cunt for not shooting…

On 39, VDV gave Spurs the lead. Assister Adebayor. A clear diagonal ball over the defense and for VDV who chested it and put it past Szczesny. There was a hint of hand-ball, but the benefit of the doubt can be given to the player. It was a stretched Arsenal defense, and it is something I wrote about in my preview. The small hole in the back when the full-backs go up.

The first half was just edged by Spurs. We had some spells of possession but Arteta is like Nasri 3 years ago. He loves to pass the ball back for who knows what reason, all the time.

On 48, the Arsenal defense was again exposed as Modric could have put 2 past us from a corner.

On 50, Ramsey equalised. 1-1 After a large amount of Arsenal pressure, Song ran forward picked up the ball from the left and provided a brilliant low cross for Ramsey to smash into the roof of the net.

On 57, Arsenal Defense was again broken down as Szczesny forced a save from Adebayor. It was like playing Fifa when attacking this defense. Within minutes, the game changed. From Arsenal to neutralise.

On 63, Per made a brilliant tackle to block Kaboul pass to Defoe in the box.

On 72, Spurs again took the lead. 21 yrs Spurs full-back Kyle Walker from distance, beating Szczesny due to a let dip, for his first goal.

On 75, a lack of communication from the defense and the GK saw Bale creeping behind and missing the goal.

On 82, Bale beat Coquelin and Jenkinson for pace, before rolling it to Defoe who forced a save of Szczesny.

On 87, another diagonal ball from Bale found Defoe on the right. How to beat this Arsenal defense, do check, ‘play a diagonal ball.’

With 5 mins added, we did not look threatening just a mediocre team in North London.

ASSESSMENT :

We started the second half poorly, and then we came alive. 7 mins later we were back to mediocrity. The half bore on, and then Spurs scored, the Arsenal defense was as usual poor, and not worth mentioning. No communication and no group effort. Some may argue that it was Song and not Kosher, but Song is a CDM, and even if Kosher was there how much would he be able to improve this ‘defense?’

As for the striker, RVP is helpless as he is surrounded with people who look clueless. Theo and Gervinho both. Arteta is a person who looks like a broken of a broken shadow of his former self. In short, there is reason nobody signed him all these years. He will never take the initiative, just pass the ball back. A Spanish Denilson at best.

Wenger’s got licence to kill…..sadly we are NEXT

Stan Kroenke is a man who has always been very ‘anonymous’ to me. Now of course I don’t know him, and in my lifetime I don’t think I ever will, but the point here is that for me the only reason he is important is because he owns something which is very valuable to a Gooner.

I honestly did not expect Stan to say this, and he should have just kept his mouth shut.

With Arsene, it his decision and only he will know that.”

Wenger has this job for life. Why??? Why does the owner have to meddle into things he has no clue about? He has infact just given the man licence to do whatever the hell he wants. Look its already true, that Wenger is Invincible at Arsenal. He attained that right in May 7 years ago. We know Wenger at Arsenal is a man who cannot be moved. And this I mean literally, as well as decision wise. But to assure that from the high Lord of the Land just pinches me even more. That hope, of his mortality has been vanquished.

It is very difficult for any owner to NOT back his manager. For instance  if he had come out and said that sometimes results don’t go your way, and that Wenger is the best in the business that would have been acceptable. Infact he did say the latter. But to announce that Wenger has this job for life is just….I mean I can;t even express it ! There are certain people who want to consistently do well. When Guardiola took over the reign of FC Barcelona, he won 6 trophies in his first year. And immediately after that he signed a contract extension for 1 year when he was offered more, I think it was 3. His reason was that if he knew he was going to stay so long then that would make him NOT give his 100 % for the club. Wenger says he gives his 100 % (I doubt it) but if he actually felt that ‘I can get fired’, then that would make him give even more. And may be, just may be that little more would make a difference.

Kronke, Wenger and Gazidis- are the fucking triumvirate of Arsenal Football Club. Ivan Gazidis, in my opinion, is a man who is pretty helpless at Arsenal. He is a man who is caught up in the middle of things and who cannot make a damn call on anything. If you saw him in the directors box at the Emirates on Wednesday, you would probably infer that the man has no idea about what football is. Hell, I even think that he was probably thinking “ What is this thing that these 22 players kick around.” Football is something which touches the hearts of millions around the world. A part of it is about standing up on your seat when your team goes forward expecting to celebrate, and expecting to cheer with 55000 people around you.

There is actually no one at the club who seems to be even remotely interested in Football, except the manager. And he too, is stubborn, arrogant, egotist who only listens to nobody but himself. Gazidis is his sidekick, as clueless as those people who come to the Emirates on Thursdays all geared up for a match. As of right now Arsenal is a broken down car, miraculously running on Trafalgar Square in London. Once it breaks down everybody is going to get upset…

Will be watching the NLD today and again will judge this Arsenal squad. Whether they have the attitude, and quality to win the league, sorry, Carling Cup…Slip of tongue !!

Guns-out,

DKD

The Big Match Preview : Spuds vs Arsenal…The North London Derby is back !!!

Former Arsenal defender Frank McLintock has come out and said that this is the worst Arsenal team he has ever team, well, that’s nice encouragement before a NLD.

But honestly, I can’t really blame him because as of now Spuds are favourites to win. Goodness!!!

Spurs are a team which are in good form. And for the first time in my life, I fear that we may not get 3 points at White Hart Lane.  North London Derby’s are games which are full of intensity, and the fact that Adebayor is there will make this one even more. The player has claimed that he will not celebrate a goal against us, and that is something which has reduced my dislike towards him. As a matter fact, I am neutral towards him.

INJURY NEWS:

Benayoun and Squillaci will be back in normal training on Friday or Saturday. Squillaci has been out for a long time so he won’t be fully match fit. Benayoun has more match fitness.

Walcott, Gervinho and Koscielny will all be late tests and very late decisions. Saturday or even Sunday morning. Walcott looks the most likely to have a chance. Koscielny may be less. He is recovering well but the game may come too soon.

Djourou is out. The other injuries you know about. There were no other injuries from the game against Olympiacos on Wednesday night.

I think Gervinho and Theo will come back, and Kosher most likely too.

Probable Line-up:

Final Thoughts:

Seeing the squad above, I know are entitled to have alot of possession. BUT our opponents will know that when we are put under pressure, we crumble. Hence the high intensity of the NLD. Song will sit and try and win the ball in the middle of the park. And of course, then he will make the usual run forward. Ramsey and Arteta are 2 players from whom I expect a bit more. I expect Arteta to really step up in this match, and a good performance against Spurs is a great way to be a fan favourite. RVP will drop back occasionally allowing 1 player from the midfield (preferable Spanish) and the wingers to attack. The defense is fine, but what is the worrying factor are the set piece plays and the counter attacks. I will not write much about the set play issues because the Olympiacos game is enough for that. What I will talk is about the counter-attacks…

Consider this :

Sagna goes up, and leaves that huge gap in the LB position. We lose the ball and Bale is let loose against Per who will have moved wider. Current situation : 3 defenders at the back…Now Bale will roast Per for pace, and his cross is most likely towards Adebayor, or Defoe.

This is what I am worried about, and I hope Wenger addresses the players about these 2 issues.

Spurs are already ahead of us with a game in hand. And to be honest, this will be a difficult win, but the return we get if we win will be immense.

Cheers,
